Deputy Tax Collector - Township of Egg Harbor

 

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Deputy Tax Collector assists in the administration and enforcement of local tax laws and regulations,

supporting the Tax Collector in the billing, collection, recording, and 

reconciliation of property taxes, municipal fees, and other revenues.

This role ensures accurate recordkeeping and provides exceptional service to taxpayers.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of tax bills, delinquency notices, and other related documents.
  • Collect and process property tax payments and other municipal revenues via cash, check, or electronic payment systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all tax collection-related transactions.
  • Respond to taxpayer inquiries in person, via phone, or by email regarding tax balances, payment options, deadlines, penalties, and liens.
  • Assist in tax lien sales, foreclosures, bankruptcies and other enforcement actions under the guidance of the Tax Collector.
  • Collaborate with the Assessor’s Office, Treasurer’s Office, and external agencies to ensure tax roll accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform other administrative duties as required to support the office.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Prior experience in municipal tax collection strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of NJ tax laws, liens, foreclosures and bankruptcy regulations and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage records with accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Edmunds tax collection billing system.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive taxpayer information with discretion.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Tax Collector Certification issued by the NJ Department of Community Affairs.
  • Minimum 2 (two) years’ experience as a Deputy Tax Collector preferred.
